I used to spend Christmas in Beverly Hills with friends who had a beautiful Spanish villa on top of the hill. It was a beautiful time, though some neighbors were odd. I am Australian and one neighbour said that Australia had apartheid because of our White Australia policy which went back to about 1900. Apart from this being a complete misrepresentation of the policy which was the workers trying to keep out the Chinese who would work for nothing, (and still do), she completely ignored the history of race relations in the US! Another neighbour who was a veryb old Polish lady had been married to the man who invented the kitchen disposal machine. She invited all her friends to her 90th birthday in Italy where they were entertained at a Tuscan villa for a week all expenses paid. The final memory ws the election of 2000 where the polling station was in a private garage! I was horrified, as our elections are tightly controlled by the Commonwealth Gov and held under supervision at public places, usually schools.
